Marguerite Peggy Guggenheim Biography: Art Collector Famous for : Being the daughter of the American businessman Benjamin Guggenheim who went down with the Titanic ship. Peggy inherited a fortune from her father and became an influential collector of modern art. She was the niece of Solomon R. Guggenheim and married the artist Max Ernst. The Swiss-born American photographer & graphic designer Herbert Matter (1907-1984) was given unprecedented access to the life of American sculptor Alexander Calder (1898-1976) over the course of their friendship. He captured the artist at work in his studios in New York and later in Roxbury, Connecticut. Alexander Calder: Performing Sculpture is at Tate Modern until April 3, 2016.
