Often associated with Cecil Beaton and Dadaism, Erwin Blumenfeld irrevocably changed the landscape of fashion media throughout his career. Born in Berlin, he worked for Vogue Paris at the end of the 1930s, before emigrating to the USA, where, as a German citizen, he was incarcerated. In 1943, he opened his first New York City studio next to Central Park where he brought his groundbreaking vision of distortion and projection to life. More than a photographer, Blumenfeld was a bonafide creative director who remains highly influential, even in the 21st century context.
